James Reeves

June 25, 1919 — October 11, 2010

James Melvin (Jim) Reeves, age 91, died Monday, October 11, 2010 at Haywood Regional Medical Center. A native of Madison County, he was a son of the late Melvin Grady and Mahala Austin Reeves. He was employed with Champion International for 42 years and a member of Cruso United Methodist Church. Jim was a charter member of the Bethel Lions Club and was a United States Navy veteran of World War II serving on the USS Hinsdale in the Pacific Theater. He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Ethel Frazier Reeves; two sons, Charles Steven Reeves and his wife, Mary, of Nashville, TN and Robert Louis Reeves and his wife, Sandra, of Gainesville, FL; one sister, Virgilene Kinsland of Canton; one brother, Howard Reeves of Canton; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, October 14, 2010 in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Bon-A-Venture Cemetery on the Old Clyde Road. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday evening at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Pigeon Valley Lions Club, 140 David Edwards Road, Waynesville, NC 28786 or to the Salvation Army, P.O. Box 358, Waynesville, NC 28786.
