James Russell

Maggie Valley, James Sherwood Russell, age 70, passed away on Thursday, September 6, 2012 at MedWest Haywood. James was a native of Granville County, NC, he had resided in Apex, NC; before moving to Haywood County in 2004. He was the son of the late Sidney and Gladys Faulkner Russell. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Sidney Russell and a sister, Doris Rau. James was employed as a mail clerk at Durham Community College and the Research Park. He loved horses, traveling and being a foster parent. James was a member of First Baptist Church of Maggie Valley. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Betsy Cotton Russell; a sister, Virginia Hill (Lewis), of Ridgemont, NC; three brothers, Luther Russell (Jenny), of Stem, NC; George Russell (Shirley), of Creedmore, NC and John Russell (Sandra) of Durham; several nieces and nephews; and a special friend Portia Divine (Bill). Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 8, 2012 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Ricky Mason and Reverend Greg Allison officiating. Entombment will follow at Garrett Hillcrest Memorial Park Mausoleum. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
