Clyde - James Rickey Sorrells, age 48, of the Thickety community died Tuesday, August 2, 2005 at Memorial Mission Hospital after a sudden illness. He was a native of Greenville, SC and had lived in Haywood County most of his life. He was the son of J. C. Sorrells, Jr. of Canton and the late Maxine Smith Sorrells. He was a graduate of Pisgah High School and was a machine operator with Champion International ten years. He was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church. Rickey loved fishing and hunting. In addition to his father, he is survived by a son, David J. Sorrells and his wife, Sally of Canton; a sister, Rita S. Sorrells and her friend, Charles Stephenson of Clyde; a grandson, Jacob Levi Sorrells and several aunts, uncles and cousins. Funeral services will be at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 4, 2005 at Oak Grove Baptist Church with the Reverend Bruce Cayton and Reverend James Parham officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:30 - 3:45 p.m. prior to the service at the church. Pallbearers will be Charles Stephenson, Harris Sorrells, Leonard Sutton, Russell Robinson, James "Jimbo" Sorrells, Robert Smith, Carroll Pressley and Danny Smith. At other times the family will be at the residence of J. C. and David Sorrells, 1158 Crabtree Mountain Road, Clyde. The family request that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 39 Robinson Road, Clyde, NC 28721. Wells Funeral Homes of Canton is in charge of arrangements.
