"1940 – 2016" Candler – James Carlyle "Sparky" Sparks, age 75, passed away on Friday, April 22, 2016 at CarePartners Hospice Solace Center. A native of Haywood County, he was a son of the late James Edward and Mardell Wilson Sparks. He lived most of his life in Buncombe County and was a member of Hominy Baptist Church. Sparky enjoyed the outdoors, spending time working and tending to his yard and fishing. In his younger years, he earned his pilot license and enjoyed flying. He was an especially good cook and was known for his delicious desserts including homemade chocolate pie, tea cakes, peanut butter cookies, apple crisp and most of all his scratch-made biscuits. Sparky adored his family and never missed watching his children and grandchildren play sports. He will be remembered fondly by all who knew him. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Judy James Sparks; two daughters, Jennie Brummitt and Jamie Massie and her husband, Tim, all of Candler; one son, Jim Sparks and his wife, Luci, of Candler; and eight grandchildren, Randy, Daniel, and Carlie Brummitt, Ann Marie, Jim Ben, Mara Beth, and Emma Grace Sparks, and Dylon Davis. Funeral services will be held at 4:30 p.m. on Monday, April 25, 2016 in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Dr. Joe Yelton officiating. Burial will follow at Bon-A-Venture Cemetery on Old Clyde Road. The family will receive friends from 3:00 until 4:30 p.m. prior to the service.
