James Stevenson

James Bennett Stevenson, age 90, died Monday, September 18, 2006, at Silver Bluff Nursing Home. He was a native of Harriman, TN and the son of the late Cassius Theodore and Lela Robinson Stevenson. He was preceded in death by his wife, Kathleen Stevenson, who died in 2001. A devoted husband and father, "J.B." always put the needs of his family first. Talented in many areas, he excelled at his job as a millwright. Well-known in his youth for his athletic abilities, J. B. participated in local softball leagues and later was an enthusiastic golfer. He retired from Champion International with more than 30 years of service. J. B. was a United States Army veteran serving in World War II. He is survived by five daughters, Nancy Woodell and her husband, Darrell, of Leesville, SC, Christine Stevenson of Atlanta, GA, Lynn Carver and her husband, Charles, of Waynesville, Janet Bowen and her husband, Doug, of Auburn Hills, MI, and Carol Clark and her husband, Jimmy, of Candler; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, September 22, 2006, at the Canton chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Larry Reeves officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service. Burial will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery. At other times, the family will be at the home of Charles and Lynn Carver, 254 Foggy Cove, Waynesville.
