James Bruce Stiles, 92, of Asheville finished his life's race and went to be with his Lord and Savior Friday, January 15, 2016. He was born in Cherokee County, North Carolina on November 4th, 1923. He was the son of the late James Carl Stiles and Carolyn Farmer Stiles and the brother of Lake Stiles. James was married to Margie Johnson Stiles for 72 years. She preceded him in death on October 23, 2015. He wanted to enjoy the joys of Heaven with her. James is survived by his daughter, Carole Stiles Bailey, her husband Ray; his son, Ronald David Stiles and Judy Stiles; and a sister Anna Ruth Henson, her husband Verlon Henson. James was a loving grandfather known affectionately as "Papaw" to Chad Stiles, Bethany Sensenig, Mariko Walker, and Rebekah Bailey. He was the great-grandfather of Noah and Oden Stiles, Celesta Edge, Jacob and Jolie Sensenig. He had several nieces and nephews that he prayed for and loved.
James was a member of Crossroads Assembly of Asheville where he served as an elder for many years, a World War II veteran, serving in France, and a member if the Erwin Hills Lion's Club. James worked as an adjuster for Allstate Insurance and earlier as the body shop foreman with Skyland Oldsmobile. When he retired at age 62, he spent several years delivering "Meals on Wheels". He loved gardening and was able to enjoy planting his final garden last spring at the age of 91. He was lovingly known for his butternut squash by friends and family.
The family will receive friends beginning at 1:00PM prior to the service at 2:00PM, Tuesday, January 19, 2016 at Crossroads Assembly. Entombment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Candler, NC. Flowers tributes are welcome or memorial gifts may be made to Crossroads Assembly or the John F. Keever Solace Center.
