Waynesville, NC-James Edward "Eddie" Tate, age 35, of Dahlia Lane, formerly of Reidsville, NC, died Saturday, August 7, 2004. He was a native of Reidsville, NC having resided in Long Beach, NC, and lived in Haywood County for the past four years. He was the son of Laura Robertson Tate of Reidsville, NC and the late James B. Tate. He was an Army veteran having served during the Gulf War. He was a member of the VFW Post 5202, American Legion Post 47, and the DAV. He was an Eagle Scout, a Venture Crew Leader, and a former EMT/firefighter. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife of 12 years, Elke Pape Tate; his maternal grandmother, Dorothy Gilley Robertson of Reidsville, NC; one daughter, Ann Marie Tate of Waynesville; one son, Tommy Tate of Waynesville; five sisters, Janie Tate of Reidsville, NC in the Stacey Community, Vickie Melvin and her husband, Hank, Janice Hobbs and her husband, Jerry, and Betty Norwood, all of Reidsville, NC, and Angela Hopkins of Gaffney, South Carolina; one brother, John William Tate of Reidsville, NC, in the Stacey Community; and one nephew. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, August 12, 2004 in the Waynesville chapel of Wells Funeral Homes & Cremation Services. The Reverend Bobby Rogers will officiate. Burial will follow at Green Hill Cemetery with military graveside rites conducted by the VFW Post 5202 and the American Legion Post 47. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 11, 2004 at the funeral home. At other times, the family will be at the residence. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made at Wells Funeral Homes & Cremation Services, 296 N. Main Street, Waynesville, NC 28786.
