JAMES ARTHUR "ART" TIERNAN, formerly of Hallandale Beach, Florida and Waynesville, North Carolina passed peacefully into God's hands at his son's and daughter-in-law's home in Margate, Florida on September 7, 2006, with family by his side.<br><br>Arthur was born in Hastings, New York on September 3, 1913 and grew up in Miami where his father was a general contractor. He served in the army in World War II in the European theater. He was an avid golfer both as an amateur and pro, and was the founder and operator of Manero's <br>Restaurant in Hallandale Beach from 1953 until 1979 where he graciously welcomed all guests so much so that it soon became one of south Broward's most well known restaurants. He was also co-founder of J. Arthur's Restaurant in Maggie Valley, North Carolina, along with his son-in-law, the late John M. Mahoney.<br><br>Art was a member of the Board of Directors of the South Broward Hospital District for two terms and raised over $100, 000 for the district for kidney dialysis in a series of golf tournaments sponsored by Manero's Restaurant. He was the past president of Hallandale Chamber of Commerce, an active member of St. Matthew's Men's Club, Hallandale Lions Club, American Legion and Broward County Democratic Party. He was chosen as a delegate to the 1968 convention in Chicago. He was also a member of St. Margaret's Catholic Church in Maggie Valley after retiring.<br><br>Art was married for 61 years to his beloved spouse, Ellen Manero, who predeceased him by five years. He is survived by his daughter, Donna Tiernan Mahoney of Maggie Valley, NC and Palm Coast, FL; his son and daughter-in-law, Peter B. and Beverly Tiernan of Margate, FL; a sister, Francis Alguire of Mulpitas, CA; six grandchildren, John Arthur Mahoney, Patrick (Rick) Mahoney, Shannon Mahoney, January Tiernan Gatto, Erin Mahoney Varvoutis, Peter Michael Tiernan, and five great-grandchildren. The values he taught his beloved family were graciousness, kindness, generosity, honesty, fair play, a great work and play ethic and devotion to family and community.<br><br>Services were held in Margate, Florida on Saturday, September 9, 2006. The family will receive friends at Wells Funeral Home in Waynesville on Wednesday, September 13, 2006 from 9:30 until 10:30 a.m. Following the visitation, a Funeral Mass of Resurrection will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at St. Margaret's Catholic Church in Maggie Valley. Internment will be at Green Hills Cemetery in Waynesville. <br><br>In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to your local Hospice in Art's memory.<br>
