James Williamson

"Loving, Husband, Father and Paw"

Waynesville, James Robert Williamson, age 82, passed away on Monday, September 11, 2017 at the VA Medical Center.

A native of Haywood County, he was the son of the late Lee and Maggie Chambers Williamson. James was also preceded in death by his siblings, Boone, Jack, Walter Lee and Lewis Williamson, Mary Hamlet, Sue South, and John Williamson. He was a graduate of Iron Duff High School and attended Asheville Buncombe Technical College. James was a member of Long's Chapel United Methodist Church where he served on various church boards. He was a member of Waynesville Masonic Lodge 259, a Korean Veteran serving in the United States Army and was a member of VFW. James retired from B.A.S.F. with 40 years of service. He also served 8 years as a Town of Waynesville Alderman. James also served on the Haywood County Health Board for 9 years and the Waynesville Rec Department Board.

James is survived by his wife of 58 years, Barbara Howell Williamson; daughter, Laura Lea Turner, and her husband, Anthony; son, James Kevin Williamson, all of Waynesville; three grandchildren, James Tyler Williamson, Sydney Lea Turner and Trent Anthony Turner; sisters, several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 14, 2017 at Long's Chapel United Methodist Church with Reverend John Ferree and Reverend Tim McConnell officiating. Burial will follow at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 10:30 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. in the church venue.
