James Carroll Wilson, age 88, passed away on Thursday, January 31, 2013 at MedWest Haywood. A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, he was the son of the late Otis Burton and Sallie Harrison Wilson. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Carrie Mae Trantham Wilson, who died on December 5, 2009; a son, James Carroll "Jim" Wilson, Jr.; a brother, Jesse B. Wilson; and a sister, Louise B. Bradsher. He was a graduate of Pfeiffer University and Canton High School. Most recently he was the former owner and operator of Hometown Cleaners and American Cleaners. During his younger years, he was a barber and worked as an insurance agent. He then worked as a Department Adjutant with the NC American Legion in Raleigh. Carroll was a member of Morning Star United Methodist Church where he taught Sunday School. He was a United States Navy veteran serving in World War II and a 32nd degree mason. He is survived by a daughter, Barbara Wilson Hyatt and her husband, Carroll of Waynesville; a brother, Harry V. Wilson and his wife, Nancy of Mountain View, California; a daughter-in-law, Jean F. Wilson and her fiancé, Steve Moore; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 3, 2013 at Morning Star United Methodist Church with the Reverend David Ortigoza and Reverend Doug Love officiating. Burial will follow with full military honors at Morning Star Community Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Saturday at Wells Funeral Home of Canton.
