James Weaver Worley, age 80, of Canton, died Saturday, March 8, 2008, at the John F. Keever Jr. Solace Center in Asheville. A native of Haywood County, he was the son of the late Ira A. Worley and Annie Mae Wilson Worley. He was preceded in death by his wife, Effie O'Diear Worley, who died Dec. 24, 2007; two sons, William Randolph and J.W. Worley Jr.; two sisters, Nellie Blalock and Cumy Robinson; and three brothers, Elbert, John and Gordon Worley. He retired from the Coca Cola Bottling Co. with 42 years of service. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and Pigeon River Masonic Lodge No. 386. AF&AM. Surviving are one daughter, Lavonne W. Webb and husband, Fred, of Brevard; one son, Andy Worley and friend, Tammy Rich, of Canton; four sisters, Elizabeth Hyde and Kate Pope, both of Canton, Catherine Messer of Asheville and Mae Moore of Glouchester, Va.; one brother, Charles Worley of Morristown, Tenn.; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 11, at Calvary Baptist Church with the Reverend Thomas Kemp, Reverend Jerry G. Worley and Reverend Gene Worley officiating. Burial will follow at Bon-A-Venture Cemetery, Newfound Road. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the church. Wells Funeral Home of Canton is in charge of arrangements.
