James Wyatt

Maggie Valley, James Ray Wyatt, age 72, of Ketner Cove, passed away on Saturday, June 18, 2016 at Haywood Regional Medical Center. A native of Haywood County, he was the son of the late Reverend Emanuel Wyatt and Pearl Sprinkle Wyatt. He was also preceded in death by infant twin siblings, a young brother, and a sister, Mary Ruth McCracken and her husband, Roy. James was a US Navy veteran, having served during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He was employed for 25 years in the VA Medical Center Maintenance and Engineering Department. James was a race enthusiast and enjoyed attending stock car racing as well as watching sports on television, especially golf. He enjoyed helping other veterans and was former Post Commander of American Legion Post 47. He also served as chairman of the Ramp Convention. James is survived by his wife of 49 years, Ernestine Ketner Wyatt; a daughter, Amie Nichole Wyatt of Maggie Valley; three sisters, Josephine Dunford of Boston, Massachusetts, Louise Henry (John) and Betty Young (Jerry) of Franklin; two brothers, Clifford George Wyatt (Jan) of Morganton and David Wyatt (Peggy) of Charlotte; one granddaughter, Afton Wyatt Bryan; several nieces and nephews; and his favorite dog, Lucy. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 21, 2016 at the Wells Events and Reception Center with Ricky Mason officiating. A reception will follow the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Legion Post 47 Honor Guard, P.O. Box 911, Waynesville, NC 28786.
