Waynesville

Waynesville, James Edson "Ed" Jaynes, age 85, peacefully passed away on Friday, August 27, 2021, at his residence.

A native of Haywood County, he was a son of the late James Edward and Freda Fincher Jaynes.  He was also preceded in death by his dear wife, Doris Bonds Jaynes, who died in 2014, grandson, Randy Barnett and a brother, Kenneth Jaynes.

Ed proudly served his country in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Japan.  After leaving the military, he had long tenures of employment at Dayco and Champion International.  Ed was a volunteer firefighter at the Lake Junaluska Fire Department and enjoyed knowing he played a part in keeping his community safe.  Camping and fishing at Lake Fontana were some of his favorite pastimes.  One of his best memories was traveling to Hawaii where he went deep sea fishing.  Family was Ed’s number one priority and he so enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and spoiling his great-grandchildren.  He will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him.

Ed is survived by two daughters, Christy Waddell, and her husband, Brian, of Waynesville and Kim Longbons, and her husband, Tracy, of Melbourne, FL; his son, Mickey Jaynes, and his wife, Carolyn, of Waynesville; two brothers, Charles Jaynes, and his wife, Betty and John Jaynes, and his wife, Catherine; sister-in-law, Joyce Jaynes; nine grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, September 3, 2021, in the Waynesville chapel of Wells Funeral Home.  Burial will follow at Old Bon-A-Venture Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 2, 2021 at the funeral home.

The service will be live streamed and will be accessible through Mr. Jaynes’s obituary on the Wells Funeral Home website.
