Jane Burgin

Flat Rock, Jane Burgin, age 89, passed away on Friday, March 20, 2015 at The Laurels of Hendersonville. Jane was the daughter of the late James Edward and Henrietta Kluttz from Albemarle, NC in Stanly County. She is preceded in death by her husband, Robert Lester Burgin, Jr. and her son, Robert (Bobby) Erwin Burgin. Jane and Lester were the former owners of Maple Knoll Apartments in Flat Rock from 1973-2004. They were instrumental in the founding of the Flat Rock Merchants Association and loved being active participants in the community. She is survived by a daughter, Eileen Burgin Walker and husband, Rudy of Flat Rock; a son, Richard (Dick) Edward Burgin of Vilas, NC; three grandchildren, Aaron Myles Walker and Elizabeth Carroll Walker, both of Flat Rock and Quinn Burgin Saleeby and husband, Wilson of Okatie, SC; three great-grandchildren, Mary Katherine, Robert, and Adger Saleeby; and one sister-in-law, Norma Jane Hipps of Waynesville. A celebration of life service will be held at 12:00 Noon on Tuesday, March 24, 2015 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Michele Jones officiating and Eulogy from Jim Francis. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the funeral home and other times, at the home of Eileen in Flat Rock. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Children's Home, 1001 Reynolda Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27104. The family wishes to thank the two Mother Hens, Judy Boleman and Virginia Spigener and the Rooster, Starr Teel for watching over and taking care of Jane when the family was away. They are considered to be our extended family. We are thankful and grateful to the caregivers at The Laurels of Hendersonville. Many became personal friends to Jane while living at The Laurels. Your service, friendship, and smiles made each day a Happy Day for Jane. To our many friends and family who have been so supportive to us over the past 14 months, we wish to thank you for your love, support and nurturing of Jane and our family. Also a special thanks to family and friends who visited Jane on her front porch at Avon Street.
