Waynesville, Jane Ferguson Hyatt, passed away on Tuesday, May 26, 2015. Jane has been a true blessing to her family for 88 years and has fought a courageous battle with Parkinson Disease for the past 27 years. Jane was born on February 12, 1927 to Lowery Odell and Louise Green Ferguson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Lowery O. "Buck" Ferguson, Jr. and a son-in-law, Robert King. She was educated in Haywood County schools and attended Blanton's Business College. She later worked in the Payroll Department at Dayco for six years. On July 27, 1947, Jane married Robert Alna Hyatt. After raising her family, she was employed as secretary for the Haywood Baptist Association, where she enjoyed working for 21 years serving the churches, pastors, and people of Haywood County. Jane was an avid historian and genealogist. She was a member and past Regent of the Hugh Rogers Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Anyone who knew Jane was aware that the two most important aspects of her life were her unwavering faith in Jesus Christ and her love and devotion to her family. In her earlier church years, she served in various capacities in Sunday School, Training Union, WMU, Bible Drill, and Vacation Bible School and also sang in the church choir. She loved children and bringing them to church. She loved visiting people and reaching out to her neighbors. These strong attributes could not help but to spill over to her family. Because of her love and devotion, her husband, children and grandchildren will "rise up and call her blessed" Proverbs 31:28. Jane is survived by her husband of almost 68 years, R. Alna Hyatt; a son, Robert Hyatt and his wife, Debbie; a daughter, Martha King; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren, all of Waynesville.
