Clyde, Jane McCroba Kirkpatrick, age 87, of 114 Mulbrook Lane, died Saturday, November 15, 2008 at her residence. A native of Ottawa, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Dr. Burton and Helen Jane Robin McCroba. She was also preceded in death by her husband, John Handy Kirkpatrick, Jr., who died April 28, 2007. She attended Wittenberg College in Ohio and moved to Sherman, Texas where she resided until moving to Haywood County in 1948. She attended Western Carolina University where she completed her Bachelors degree and also earned her Masters. She taught at Pisgah High School until her retirement. She was a longstanding member of the Waynesville Book Club, Haywood County Arts Council, a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Hugh Rogers Chapter, for over 50 years, the Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, and was a member of Crabtree United Methodist Church. Jane loved horseback riding and camping in the Great Smoky Mountains with her husband and friends. She traveled with her husband John and their two dogs, Bounce and Megan to all 48 states in the US. Surviving are her daughters, Helen Henry and her husband, Joe, of Waynesville, Sarah Sutton and her husband, Martin, of Cookeville, TN and a son, Taylor Kirkpatrick, and his wife, Debbie, of Clyde; six grandchildren, Michael and Angela Henry, Sarah Jane Bos, Stephanie Johnson, Rhianna Ritter, and Jessica Kirkpatrick; four great grandchildren; and her constant companion, Marshal, a long-haired Chihuahua. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, November 22, 2008 at Crabtree United Methodist Church with Reverend Kathy McAbee and Reverend David Reeves officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Following the memorial service, a celebration of Jane's life will begin at 4:00 p.m. in the family garden.
