Waynesville, Jane Parker LaFountaine, age 85, of Pisgah Drive, passed away on Friday, January 2, 2015 at Haywood Lodge. A native of Tennessee, she lived most of her life North Carolina. She was the daughter of the late Henry and Kathleen Tinnell Parker. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Chester E. LaFountaine, Sr., who died in 1998 and two brothers, Billy and Ronnie Parker. Jane taught for 31 years in North Carolina and retired from the Haywood County School System after teaching at Hazelwood Elementary. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Waynesville and Alpha Delta Kappa Sorority. Jane loved her family and enjoyed decorating, especially at Christmas. In Jane's honor, please wear an article of red to her services. Jane is survived by a daughter, Meg Bird Reeves and husband, Richard, of Waynesville; two sons, William T. Bird, Jr. and wife, Cynthia, and Terrell Parker Bird, also of Waynesville; a step-daughter, Helen Ann Pressley; three step-sons, Edward, Chet and Lloyd LaFountaine; four grandchildren, David and Michael Bird, Parker Reeves and Cyndy Rape; eight great-grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; and eight step-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 6, 2015 at First United Methodist Church of Waynesville with Reverend Sanford Giles and Reverend Kathy Wilson officiating. Burial will follow at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Monday at Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville.
