Jane McElroy Sims

Waynesville - Jane McElroy Sims, 82, passed away on January 25, 2025 at Autumn Care of Waynesville. A native of Haywood County and the Iron Duff community, she was the daughter of the late Devoe and Glee Justice McElroy.

She was a graduate of Crabtree-Iron Duff High School where she was a star on the basketball team and was selected as the most outstanding player in tournament play. She loved beautiful things, and her home reflected this. Jane worked as an administrative assistant for several businesses in Haywood County and was particularly adept at finance and budgeting, helping many people learn to use their resources wisely. Jane loved bluegrass and gospel music and was a long-time member of Antioch Baptist Church.

Jane is survived by a daughter, Kimberly (Bruce) Crawford; a son, Todd Robinson; two grandsons, Josh (Amy) Crawford and Kalem Robinson; two great-granddaughters, Alba and Claire Crawford, all of Iron Duff; a sister, Polly Angel of Waynesville; two brothers, Roger McElroy of Maggie Valley and Ted McElroy of Iron Duff. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins. Along with someone dear to her, Cathey Whitner.

Memorial services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 29, 2025, at Antioch Baptist Church with Reverend Josh Blight and Matt Pruett officiating. The family will receive friends from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the church prior to the service.
