Jane Stamey

Jane Gregory Stamey, age 89, passed away on Saturday, January 17, 2015, at her daughter's residence. A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late Bert and Nannie Evans Gregory. She was also preceded in death by her husband Wayne Stamey, who died October 15, 2014; two brothers, Charles and James Gregory; and two sisters, Ruth Hamrick and Mary Robinson; and a grandson-in-law, Robert Neil Holcombe. She was a former employee of Gordon's Jewelers of Canton and was a lifelong member of Long's United Methodist Church. Jane was a volunteer with Meals on Wheels for over 25 years. She enjoyed visiting her friends who were homebound and in nursing homes. Gardening, canning, and freezing vegetables were her hobby and she delighted in giving them away to her many friends and family. She is survived by two daughters, Judy Jones of Canton and Jan Wiggins and her husband, Robert, of Gastonia; a special nephew, Jimmy Gregory of Alva, Florida; sister-in-law, Mildred Gregory of Waynesville; two grandchildren, Lora Jones Holcombe and Katie Wiggins Thomas and her husband, Robert; three great-grandchildren, Annie Len Holcombe, Robert William "Liam" Thomas, III, and Kiptyn Elizabeth Thomas; and several nieces and nephews. The family also wishes to acknowledge the excellent care provided by her caregivers, Thomas Taylor, Helen Neal, and Melody McMahan. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 20, 2015 at the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Rennie Salata and Reverend Kelly Dotson officiating. Burial will follow at Long's Community Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Monday evening at the funeral home.
