"Loving Wife, Mother, Grandmother"

Waynesville, Janet Lackey Wallace Owensby, age 67, passed away on Wednesday, October 25, 2017 at Smoky Mountain Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Janet was born in Charlotte, the daughter of Margaret Allen and the late William Lackey. She was also preceded in death by her first husband, Bill Wallace, who died in 2013. Janet retired after 30 years from Anson County High School where she taught English. Janet loved flowers and plants, but mostly she just enjoyed being outside at her home in the mountains.

In addition to her mother, Janet is survived by her husband of one year, Joe Owensby; a son, Daniel Wallace, of Rutherfordton; a brother, Charles Lackey (Susan), of Locus, North Carolina; three step-children, Anita Gatien (Cliff), Debbie Sapp (Martin) of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, and Joe David Owensby Jr. (Susan) of Douglasville, Georgia; a step granddaughter, Shannon Leigh Spencer (James); and one step great-grandson, Caleb James Spencer.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, October 27, 2017 at Rock Springs Baptist Church with Reverend Kevin Brooks and Reverend Charlie Simpson officiating. Burial will follow at Upper Crabtree Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 2:00 pm. prior to services at the church.
