Jason Sutton, of Maggie Valley, beloved father, son, and brother, passed away unexpectedly on September 3, 2024, at the age of 50. Jason was born on October 30, 1973, a cherished member of the Sutton family. His life was defined by love, laughter, and a steadfast commitment to those around him.
For 22 dedicated years, Jason served as a water plant operator for the Maggie Valley Sanitary Department, where his work was respected and admired by colleagues who appreciated his unwavering dedication. His role was not just a job; it was an integral part of his identity. Outside of work, Jason was known for his many passions, particularly his love for fishing. An avid fisherman, he found peace and joy in the great outdoors, skillfully casting his line while sharing stories that would bring friends together in laughter.
Family was at the heart of Jason's life. He was a loving father and provided unwavering support and guidance to his son, William Sutton, who he shares with Melody Perry. Jason's close bond with his family was evident in everything he did. He looked up to his parents, William Henry and Margie Ann Forga Sutton, who instilled values of hard work, kindness, and integrity. He shared a special connection with his siblings, Denise Hannah (Scott), Bobby Sutton (Theresa), and Forrest Sutton (Jessica), often making memories together that would be cherished forever.
Jason's warmth and spirit were felt in the community as well. A member of Victory Baptist Church and a frequent attendee at Cove Creek Baptist Church, he found solace and connection within his faith. Jason's infectious smile could light up any room, and his cheerful disposition made him a friend to many. He was known for his willingness to help others and was always seen mowing lawns or weed eating for neighbors, embodying the selfless nature that defined him. Jason would sweat like it was raining, having a smile on his face and keeping on getting the work done.
Though Jason has departed from this world, his spirit will continue to live on through the love of his family and friends. He is known as the “Funcle” (Fun-Loving Uncle) to all his nieces and nephews, Riley Hannah, Henry and Ella Sutton, Sam and Joanna Sutton, and great nephews, Clay & Luke Hannah.
He is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Cole and Bertha Sutton, and his maternal grandpa, Robert Forga. He is survived by his maternal grandmother, Viola Forga.
A visitation in memory of Jason will be held on Saturday, September 7, 2024, from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM, followed by a funeral service at 2:00 PM, all taking place at Wells Funeral Home in Waynesville, NC, with Reverend Issac Brooks and Reverend Millard Grant officiating. His family invites all who knew Jason to celebrate his life and reflect on the joy and love he brought to everyone around him. Pallbearers will be Joe Grasty, Mark Jones, William Goodson, Joshua Stiles, Jeremiah Rich, Jack Lee Caldwell, James Caldwell, and John Caldwell.
In this time of sorrow, let us remember Jason for the countless moments of joy he gave us. His legacy of kindness, laughter, and love will resonate forever in the hearts of all who had the privilege to know him.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to an education fund for his son, William, or to Cove Creek Baptist Church, 1397 Cove Creek Road, Waynesville, NC 28785.
