Jasper Albert Burnette, age 90, passed away on Thursday, April 26, 2012 at his residence. A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, he was a son of the late James Henry and Phebe Watts Burnette. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by six brothers and six sisters. Jasper was a United States Army veteran of World War II. He was a devoted Christian and a very active member of East Fork Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and former trustee. Jasper enjoyed hunting, fishing, raising a garden, honey bees, and will be remembered for his giving and caring spirit which he so generously displayed to others. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Wilma Brown Burnette; twin daughters, Brenda Burnette Raulerson and her husband, Gifford, and Linda Burnette Green and her husband, Robert, all of Canton; three grandchildren, Isaac Raulerson, Janet R. Wayman and her husband, Mark, and Amethyst G. Searcy and her husband, Jeffrey; two great-grandchildren, Carson and Connor Wayman; a special niece, Melba Burrell Freeman and her husband, R.E., of Canton; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, April 28, 2012 at East Fork Baptist Church with the Reverend Larry Sprinkle and Reverend Greg Cullen officiating. Burial will follow at New Cruso Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:30 until 3:00 p.m. prior to the service at the church. Wells Funeral Home of Canton is in charge of the arrangements.
