Jasper Teems

Canton- Jasper Benton "J.B." Teems, age 93, died Saturday, July 4, 2009 at Canton Christian Convalescent Center. A native of Clay County, he was the son of the late John and Fannie Sneed Teems. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Minnie W. Teems who died in 2003; a sister, Eva Teems and a brother, Roy Teems. J.B. retired from Champion International with 31 years service and was a member of Oak Grove Baptist and Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church in Hayesville. He was a United States Air Force veteran serving in Pacific Theatre. He was the former choir director at Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church in Hayesville, NC and also helped construct the Chattanooga and Fontana Dams. He is survived by a sister, Carmen Teems Scroggs, of Swannanoa; five nieces, including Eva Nell Edmonds of Swannanoa and Marsha Connor of Canton; two nephews, Mike Willis of Canton and Arnold Teems of Swannanoa and caregivers, Hugh and Jennie Earley, of Canton. Funeral services will beat 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 7, 2009 at Oak Grove Baptist Church with the Reverend Bruce Cayton officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:30 p.m. until 3:45 p.m. prior to the service at the church. Wells Funeral Home of Canton is in charge of arrangements.
