Jean Brown

Jean was born in Biloxi, Mississippi, July 7, 1944, to Talmadge and Ruby Allen.  She and her family moved to St. Petersburg, Florida, where she graduated from Northeast Senior High School in 1962.  She was in the very first RN program at St. Petersburg College and practiced her profession in St. Petersburg.  She thoroughly enjoyed teaching Women’s Bible Study Groups’ and attending them regularly herself.

She and her husband Dr. Ed Brown, III moved to Clyde in 1998.  They both volunteered at Haywood Regional Medical Center and were Co-Presidents of the volunteers for two years.  Jean enjoyed crafting especially the art of card-writing and corresponding with her many friends.  They both were involved with teaching Young Adults at both Antioch Baptist Church and Long’s Chapel United Methodist Church.

Jean had an extremely deep faith all of her adult life which she freely shared with others.  In addition to her parents, she was pre-deceased by her first husband, Charles.

Jean is survived by her husband of 42 years, Ed; her sons, Steven (Kelly) and Mark; sister, Judy Bettridge; brother John Allen; and several nieces.

A celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 25, 2021, in the Waynesville chapel of Wells Funeral Home.  Reception will follow at Wells Events & Reception Center.  She will be buried at the Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery in Clyde, North Carolina.

Any remembrances can be made to the Long’s Chapel Student Scholarship Fund at Long’s Chapel United Methodist Church, 133 Old Clyde Road, Waynesville, NC 28785.

The care of Mrs. Brown has been entrusted to Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville.
