Jean Cochran Lanning, age 87, passed away on Saturday, December 22, 2012 at Heather Glen at Ardenwoods. She was a native of Swain County, but had lived most of her life in Haywood and was a daughter of the late Dan and Ila Woody Cochran. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George Bedford Lanning who died in 1970 and a son, Kenneth Lanning, who died in 2002. Jean was member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church and former employee of the Champion International Cafeteria. She volunteered at Haywood Christian Ministries. She is survived by two daughters, Peggy Brock and her husband, Charles, of Mills River, and Kaye Minchew and her husband, Greg, of LaGrange, Georgia; a daughter-in-law, Evelyn Lanning of Waynesville; two sons, Jeff Lanning of Cary, and Mark Lanning and his wife, Bonnie, of Cocoa, Florida; one sister, Eva Nell Sanford of Southport, North Carolina; one brother, Lane Cochran and his wife, Louise, of Canton; two granddaughters, Kathleen Lanning of Waynesville and Kyla Lanning of Cocoa, Florida; and one grandson, Kevin Lanning of King, North Carolina. A graveside service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, December 23, 2012 at Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cemetery with the Reverend Dr. Perry Brindley officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following in the church fellowship hall. Memorials may be made to Mt.
