Jeanette Abbott

Jeanette Cogburn Abbott, age 94, died on Wednesday, May 24, 2011. A native of Buncombe County, she was the daughter of the late Lawrence Albert and Lona Hall Cogburn. She was also preceded in death by four sisters, Eva Trull, Gladys Hannah, Mary Lou Adamson, and Willie Pless. She served in the Army Nurse Corps in World War II. Mrs. Abbott was a public health nurse and also a retired visiting health nurse at Champion International. She is survived by a son, James L. Helms of Arden; two daughters, Carolyn H. Lincoln and her husband, David, of Asheville and Sue H. Herbert and her husband, David, of Alpharetta, GA; a step-son, Bill Abbott of LA; two step-daughters, Carolyn McClain of Myrtle Beach, SC and Judy McCracken of Clyde; and a brother, L. A. Cogburn, Jr. of Cruso. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, May 27, 2011, at the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home & Cremation Services of Canton with the Reverend James Huey officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Haywood County Rescue Squad, P. O. Box 1275, Canton, NC 28716.
