Jeanette Skinner

Jeanette Bohannon Skinner of Maggie Valley, age 87, passed away on Monday, September 2, 2019 at Haywood Regional Medical Center.  Her transition was peaceful.  She has walked by faith and now has sight.

A native of Detroit, Michigan, she was a daughter of the late Perry Duke and Iva Lovell Smith Bohannon. In addition to her parents, Jeanette was preceded in death by her husband, Payton Ross Skinner and brother, Harold Bohannon.  Jeanette was born in Detroit, Michigan on February 2, 1932.  She & Payton Skinner were wed on May 21, 1949.  She started working at Ford Motor Company in Highland Park, MI in 1951.  Jeanette, also known as Ricky, retired with 32 years, many of those years as a sewing machine operator.  She maintained lifelong friendships with many of her Ford family.  Her fondest memories were often shared through captivating stories that left listeners entertained.

Jeanette was a devoted wife & mother.  She was a gifted artist and appreciated painting and pottery.  Jeanette could often be found knitting the most beautiful afghans in her free time and took joy in giving them away to friends and family members.  Among her many talents, she was most gifted in hospitality.  Her elegance was admired. Jeanette’s daughters knew they were blessed to call her mother.

The Skinners began their retirement in Florida in 1985, which they always said was paradise! Finding and becoming members of Park Street Baptist Church was where they found their Church family.  Jeanette’s faith was a living testimony seen by all who knew her.

Jeanette is survived by two daughters, Sharon Kyle, and her husband, Robert Donald Kyle, of Cookeville, Tennessee and Patricia Ann Harsen, and her husband, Lemuel Fredrick Harsen of Lenox, Michigan; a brother, Gerald Bohannon, and his wife, Kay, of Hudson, Florida; four grandchildren, Heather Mina, and her husband, Al Mina, Jesse Kyle, and his wife, Serena Kyle, Andrew "Drew" Smith and Brian Harsen; four great-grandchildren, Luke and Zoë Mina, Joe Smith and Lilly Kyle; and many wonderful blessings of nieces, nephews, and friends.

A Private Celebration of Life will be held.
