Jeanette Thurmond

Waynesville, Lurah Jeanette "Jan" Thurmond, age 81, died Saturday, November 15, 2008 at Givens Estate in Asheville. She was a native and lifelong resident of Haywood County until the last three years where she resided at Givens Estate in Buncombe County. She was the daughter of the late Fuller and Frances Morrow Crawford and was also preceded in death by her husband Ralph Edwin Thurmond, Sr., who died in 1990, 2 sisters, Lucille Jones and Kay Hampton and 2 brothers, Terry and Bryce Crawford. She retired from Wellco in 1985 with 30 years of service and was a member of Long's Chapel United Methodist Church. She is survived by one son, Rhett Thurmond and his wife Cynthia of Clyde, two daughters and their husbands, Cynthia and James Myers of Charlotte and Susannah and Charles Swanger of Asheville, 4 grandchildren; James Myers, Jr., Amanda Sprouse, Chris Thurmond and Brooke Swanger, 5 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, November 17, 2008 at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park with Reverend Horwood P. Myers, Jr. officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at Wells Funeral Home in Waynesville. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Care Partners Hospice, P.O.
