Jeannette Sweger

Canton, Jeannette May te Brake Sweger died on March 7, 2017 at Silver Bluff Village at the age of 93. She was the daughter of Henry Louis and Sadie Mary Wulfse te Brake who came to America from Dordrecht, Netherlands. Jeannette was born in Chicago on May 17, 1923, and lived in both the United States and the Netherlands during her childhood. She married her childhood sweetheart Theodore James Sweger on August 25, 1945, when he returned from serving in the U.S. Army during World War II. Ted was awarded the Purple Heart for wounds suffered in combat. Jeannette is survived by her daughter Carol Sweger Ploch (Richard), her granddaughter Christine Elizabeth Basulto (Armando) and great-grandsons Armand and Christian Basulto. Jeannette and her husband, Ted, were volunteers for Meals on Wheels, the Intentional Growth Center at Lake Junaluska, and her church. She lived in Chicago, Riverdale, IL, Naperville, IL, Lake Worth, FL, and Atlantic Beach, FL, before retiring to Waynesville in 1992. She was a resident of Silver Bluff Village for 10 years. Jeannette enjoyed traveling and caring for her family, especially her granddaughter and great-grandsons. She had the cleanest house in the universe. Jeannette was strong and had a fierce love of family. A private family service will be held at the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Black Mountain. The family is so very grateful for the care received at Silver Bluff Village. Memorials may be made to the Silver Bluff Activities Fund, 100 Silver Bluff Drive, Canton, NC 28716.
