Waynesville-Jefferson Dean Bishop, age 82, of 491 Yates Cove Road, died Thursday, September 18, 2003 at his residence.
A native of Meigs County, Tennessee, he had moved to the Iron Duff Community in 1961. He was the son of the late Ross Bishop and Annie Houser Bishop Brown. He was also preceded in death by a son, Gary Bishop; two brothers, John and Bill Bishop and Emmitt Brown; and two sisters, Maudie Johns and Dora Coleman. He was a US Army veteran of World War II. He was a farmer and attended Woodland Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Hazel Arrington Bishop; one son, Dewayne Craig Bishop, and his wife, Coni, of Waynesville; one daughter, Karen Gail Mathis, and her husband, Kermit, of Roxboro, NC; and three grandchildren, Kelly Mathis, and Brittany and Justin Bishop.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, September 21, 2003 in the Waynesville chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Alan Davis, Reverend Thomas Kemp, and Reverend Bobby Rogers officiating. Burial will follow at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:30 p.m. on Sunday prior to the service.
The pallbearers will be Eddie Stout, Jerry Lewis, Terry Trantham, Jason Dowell, Jim Smith, Kelly Mathis, Taylor Bishop, Eddie Stout, and Justin Bishop.
