Canton-Jenive Smathers Welch- 102, formerly of Coffee Branch Road, died Monday, March 17, 2003 at Haywood Regional Medical Center.
She was a native and lifelong resident of Haywood County and was a daughter of the late J. Burton and Roxanne Kinsland Smathers. She was the wife of the late Morris L. Welch who died in 1981 and was also preceded in death by a son, Jesse B. Welch who died in 2002, three sisters and four brothers. She was a member of Long's United Methodist Church.
The family wishes to express their gratitude to the staff of Silver Bluff Nursing Home for their genuine acts of kindness and compassion over the past 6 ½ years.
She is survived by three daughters, Nancy W. Deaver and husband Gerald of Brevard, Katie W. Kelly of Suffolk, VA, Ann W. Trice and husband Max of Canton, Daughter-in-law, Zira P. Welch of Canton, two sons, David J. Welch and wife Bonnie of Nashville, TN, William J. Welch of Enka, 9 grandchildren, Denise D. Danos, Dawn D. Brookshire, Brian S. Welch, Celina W. Barber, Dennis, Howard and Jason Kelly, Rebecca K. Smaltz and Jeffrey D. Trice, 11 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 19, 2003 at Long's Community Cemetery, Coffee Branch Road with Reverend Howard Kelly officiating. Serving as pallbearers will be Jeff Trice, Brian Welch, Dennis Kelly, Howard Kelly, Glenn Danos, Jeff and Daniel Brookshire and Cecil Barber.
