Jennings Cooke

Canton-Jennings "Jay" Eugene Cooke, age 90, of the Bethel community went to be with the Lord surrounded by his family on Monday, January 24, 2005 at the Memorial Mission Hospital campus. He was a native and lifelong resident of Haywood County and was the last surviving child of 8 to the late Dock and Dollie Henson Cooke. He was also preceded in death by two infant children, J. E. Cooke and Ronald Porter Cooke. He was a skilled carpenter by trade but the love of his life was his family. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Betty Cogburn Cooke of Canton, one daughter Linda Cooke Caldwell and her husband Terry of Waynesville, one son Sam Cooke and his wife Sherry of Canton, 2 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 26, 2005 at Bethel Baptist Church. Reverend Dr. Roy Kilby will officiate. Burial will follow at Bethel Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at Wells Funeral Homes & Cremation Services of Canton.
