Canton- Jerry Dean Burnette- age 72 went to be with the Lord, Wednesday, June 1, 2005 at Memorial Mission Hospital. He was a native and lifelong resident of Haywood County and was a son of the late Clint and Inez West Burnette. He was preceded in death by three brothers; Doc, Eldon and Wade Burnette and one sister, Geneva Rask. He graduated from Bethel High School and was employed by BASF as a property accountant for 35 years when he retired in 1993. Mr. Burnette was an active member of Calvary Baptist Church and a big supporter of Pisgah High School sports and was a true fan of UNC Tarheels. He enjoyed coaching and was active with little league baseball. He was very devoted to his family and will be missed by them very much. Mr. Burnette was in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He is survived by two sons; Randy Burnette and Alan Burnette and his wife Cynthia both of Canton; two grandchildren; Jonathan and Nathan Burnette. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, June 4, 2005 in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Homes & Cremation Services with the Reverend Dennis Ruff and Reverend Perry Brindley officiating. Burial will follow in Crawford/Ray Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 1:45 p.m. prior to the service.
