Waynesville-Jerry R. Conard, age 60, of 837 Inman Branch Road, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, November 20, 2007. A native of Haywood County, he was the son of the late Jack L. and Lela Emmaline Haney Conard. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a special friend, Lola Mae Conard and a stepson, Billy Carpenter. He was employed by Silver Bluff Village for 10 years in the Maintenance Department. Jerry was of the Baptist faith and attended Bethel Baptist Church. He had a special love for his grandchildren and his dog, Charlie. He enjoyed being outside working in his yard and "tinkering" on his vehicles. Jerry will be deeply missed by his family and friends. He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Velvet Gibson Conard; four daughters, Shannon Ledford, Amy Gordy and her husband, Steve, Jerrilynn Howell and her husband, William, and Jasper Hunter and her husband, Clinton; two sons, Brian and Andy Conard; stepchildren, Teresa Hyson and her husband, Mike, Julie Robinson, and Ronnie Carpenter and his wife, Angela; two brothers, Buddy Lee Conard and his wife, Debra, and Larry L. Conard and his wife, Genevieve; 19 grandchildren; and one great grandchild, Addison Kinley Carpenter; two nieces, "Scooby" and Lynn; and one nephew, Shaun, all of Waynesville. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, November 23, 2007 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Dr. Roy Kilby officiating. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 1:45 p.m. prior to services, and at other times the family will be at the residence. Serving as pallbearers will be Sean and Scotty Wood, Pete Warren, Kenny Rogers, Randy Pressley, and Larry Cribb. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Silver Bluff Village ECAP Fund, 100 Silver Bluff Drive, Canton, NC 28721.
