Jerry Whent

Canton - Gerald Harvey "Jerry" Whent, age 59, of Brookside Drive, passed away on Sunday, July 10, 2016 at his residence. Jerry was born in Terrace Bay, Ontario, Canada, he was the son of Rose Starnynki Whent of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, Canada and the late Gerald Thomas Whent. Jerry retired in 2014 from Borg Warner as an electrician with 20 years service. He was a member of Crestview Baptist Church. Jerry enjoyed wood working, hiking, sailing, photography and most of all spending time with his children and family. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife of 36 years, Kathy Smith Whent of Canton; a daughter, Jennifer Blakely and her husband, Dakota, of Candler; a son, Daniel Whent of the home; two brothers, Richard and Thomas Whent both of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, Canada; four brothers-in-law, Bob and Tom Smith both of Waynesville, Dean Smith of Sylva , and Phil Smith of Leicester; his mother- in-law, Altha Smith of Waynesville; one sister-in-law, Revonda Stamey of Waynesville; and numerous loving nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 14, 2016 at Crestview Baptist Church with the Reverend Dan Page officiating. Burial will follow at Green Hills Cemetery, 25 New Leicester Highway, Asheville, NC. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday at Wells Funeral Home of Canton.
