"Our Paw" Canton – Jerry Lamar Worley, age 76, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, April 24, 2016 at the St Joseph Campus of Mission Hospitals after a courageous fight with a brief illness. A native of Haywood County, he was a son of the late Angus Worley, Sr. and Hettie Parham Worley. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by the love of his life, Shirley Clark Inman; two brothers, Angus Worley, Jr. and Bobby Worley; one sister, Barbara Jean Barr. Jerry was a native of the Beaverdam community, graduated from Canton High School in 1959, worked as a farmer, and was an active member of his community. He was also a member of Beaverdam Baptist Church. Jerry loved his family, friends and neighbors and the words to describe him are gentle, sweet, and caring. He was a hardworking, selfless man who would help anyone in need. Jerry never had a harsh word to say about anyone. He was an all-around wonderful man that will be missed dearly. Jerry took pride in his land and loved to watch his peacocks roam about. He enjoyed the many years spent with his best friend, "Spot" his beloved dog, who passed away last winter. He is survived by three daughters, Yevette Hughes and her husband, Jerome, of Canton, Yvonne Sullivan and her spouse, Beverly Bradshaw, of Shelby, and Haley Pressley of Waynesville; four grandchildren, Shantel Bennett Hale and her husband, Scott, of Waynesville, Chasity Benson Metcalf and her husband, Joe, of Greenville, Tennessee, Whitney Hughes and Lanie Pressley both of Waynesville; eight great-grandchildren, Kylee Jo and Braden Hale of Waynesville, Camden Hughes of Canton, Brooklyn, Sarah, and Millie Metcalf, all of Greenville, Tennessee, and Nova and Ezra Woodall of Waynesville; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, April 29, 2016 in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Eugene Worley and Mr. Jeremy Morgan officiating. Burial will follow at Beaverdam Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. Thursday evening at the funeral home.
