Jesse Moody, Sr.

Waynesville-Jesse Moody, Sr., age 85, of the Hemphill Community, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, July 25, 2006. A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, he was the son of the late Jess and Algie McElroy Moody. He was also preceded in death by four brothers, Fred, Carl, and Manuel Moody as well as an infant brother and three sisters, Glenna Moody, Hilda Wyatt, and Juanita Smith. He was a US Navy veteran and served during World War II. He was a self-employed farmer and enjoyed fishing and gardening. Jesse loved the Lord with all his heart and was loved and admired by all who knew him. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Hester Putnam Moody; one son, Jesse Moody, Jr. and wife, Linda, of Waynesville; two sisters, Lois Cagle and Clursa Messer and her husband, Ernest, both of Waynesville; two brothers, James A. Moody and his wife, Artha, of Hartford, TN and Robert Moody and his wife, Jo Ann, of Travelers Rest, SC; and three grandchildren, Cheryl, Shane, and Wesley Moody. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, July 28, 2006 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Ernest Messer and Reverend Jerry Nelson officiating. Burial will follow at Green Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:00 until 2:00 p.m. prior to services, and at other times, at the residence of Jesse Moody, Jr., 52 Twinbrook Drive, Waynesville. Serving as pallbearers will be Tommy Franklin, Edward Moody, Billy Wayne Franklin, Steve Fie, and Bill and Hugh Price.
