Jesse Scott

May 8, 1926 — January 10, 2013

Jesse Ray Scott, age 86, of the Beaverdam community passed away on Thursday, January 10, 2013 at The Homestead. He was a native of Haywood County where he resided most of his life and was the son of the late Jesse and Miney Parham Scott. He was also preceded in death by five brothers and three sisters. He retired from Champion International as a felt technician in 1988 with more than 30 years of service. He owned and operated Scotts Wrecker Service for more than 40 years. Jesse Ray was a lifelong and dedicated member of Long Branch Baptist Church where he served as a trustee for more than 30 years. He was a U. S. Army veteran serving during World War II and also in the Korean Conflict and served 18 years in the Army National Guard. Jesse Ray will be remembered for being very kindhearted and friendly having never met a stranger. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Louise Carver Scott; three sons, Gene Scott and his wife, Carla, Dewayne Scott and his wife, Cheryl, and Gerald Scott all of Canton; three sisters, Frankie Smith of Clyde, Lucy Best and her husband, Carroll, of Canton, and Betty Jean Rathbone and her husband, Boyd, of Waynesville; a brother, Weaver Scott and his wife, Mary Lou, of Hendersonville; seven grandchildren, Josh Scott (fiancé Brooke Tilley), Keisha Lanning (Jonathan), Matt Rodgers, Jess Scott, Cortney McGaha, Chelsea Scott, and Audrey Scott; three great-grandchildren, Heidi and Nathan Lanning, and Mackenzie McGaha; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, January 13, 2013 at Long Branch Baptist Church with the Reverend Martin Worley and Reverend Jack Scott officiating. Burial will follow at Beaverdam Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Saturday at Wells Funeral Home of Canton. Memorials may be made to Long Branch Baptist Church Building Fund, 1003 North Canton Road, Canton, NC 28716.
