Jessie Best

Clyde, Jessie Samuel �Sam� Best, age 82 of Upper Crabtree community died Wednesday, December 15, 2010 at the Brian Center of Waynesville. He was a native and lifelong resident of Haywood County and was the son of the late Hugh Carroll and Bertie Mae Davis Best. He was also preceded in death by a son Gary Alan Best, 2 grandsons Bruce Alan Holder and Samuel Alan Lunsford, 4 brothers, Howard, Roger, Phil and Carroll Best and one sister Helen McCracken. He retired from Dayco Corp. with 38 years of service. He was of the Methodist faith. Sam was dedicated to his work and adored his family especially his great-grandchildren. He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Linda Cagle Best, one son, James Alan Lunsford of Waynesville; two daughters, Elaine Cobb and her husband Hilary of Clyde; Joan Passmore and her husband Julius of Clyde; two sisters Betty Terrell of Clyde; Alpha Williams of Waynesville; 5 grandchildren; Paula and Jonathan Lunsford, Laurel and Michael Cobb and Andrea Holder, two great-grandchildren; Joseph Samuel Lunsford and Nevaeh Lunsford and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, December 18, 2010 in the Waynesville chapel of Wells Funeral Home. Reverend Charlie Simpson will officiate. Burial will follow in the Upper Crabtree Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:45 p.m. until 1:45 p.m. at the funeral home prior to the service.
