Clyde - Jessie Mae Shelton Brown, age 93, of Broad Street, passed away on Saturday, September 13, 2014 at Smoky Mountain Health and Rehabilitation Center. She was an earthly angel who touched many lives, and she has gone on to be a Heavenly angel. She was a beloved member of the community and of her church. To know Jessie Mae was to love her. She had a warm heart, and infectious smile, and lived her life joyfully. She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, wife, and friend. She will be so greatly missed. Jessie Mae was born in Pickens, SC, and was the daughter of the late Spurgeon and Minnie Hendrix Shelton. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Sam Brown, who died in 1967; a son, Frederick Brown, two sisters, Christine Brown and Irene Howell and a brother, Clarence Shelton. Jessie worked as a supervisor in the sample department at Wellco. She was a charter member of Calvary Road Baptist Church and sang in the choir. Jessie Mae enjoyed her family, was a wonderful cook, loved flowers, and enjoyed singing Christian and Gospel music. She is survived by a son, Rufus Brown (Betty) of Clyde; a sister, Valerie Eavenson Holloway of Waynesville; a brother, Kenneth Shelton (Margaret) of Canton; four grandchildren, Joe Brown (Judy), Mark Brown (Ann), Sara Brown Rutledge (Jude) and Andy Brown (Becky) and four great-grandchildren, Amy, Luke, Caroline and Jack Brown. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 21, 2014 at Calvary Road Baptist Church with Reverend J.D. Grant, Reverend John H. Swanger III, and Reverend Chris Willett officiating. Burial will follow at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Gardens. Serving as pallbearers will be R.L. Brown, A.J. Brown, Joe Downs, Dale Howell, Johnny Brown and David Brown. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until 2:45 p.m. prior to the service at the church. The family would like to give a special thank you to the staff at Smoky Mountain Health and Rehabilitation Center for the excellent care that was provided for Jessie.
