Jessie Messer

Waynesville-Jessie Reeves Messer, age 87, died on Monday, June 5, 2006 at the Brian Center. A native and life-long resident of Haywood County, she was born on November 27, 1918, the daughter of William Robert and Alice Emaline Seay Reeves. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Woodrow W. Messer who died in 1979; a son, Benny Messer; two sisters, Annie R. Price and Willie Maye Reeves, who died in infancy; and three brothers, Charles, Paul, and James Reeves. She was a member of Dellwood Baptist Church. She is survived by a daughter, Joyce Messer Mashburn and husband, James, of Clyde; a son, James C. Messer "Buck" and wife, Sally, of Waynesville; one sister, Margaret Reeves Caldwell and husband, Walter, of Waynesville; five grandchildren, Shayne Clark Martin and husband, Edgar, of Hendersonville, Tom Clark and wife, Keila, of Fletcher, Jeanette Messer Ross and husband, Ferguson, of Waynesville, Steven Woodrow Messer and wife, Marie, of Tignall, GA, Debra Messer Tanner and husband, Michael, of Rayle, GA, Lynn Mashburn Stark and husband, Mike, of Arlington, TX; six great grandchildren, Ryan McElroy and wife, Michelle, of Waynesville, Brooke Stevenson and husband, Robert, of Washington, NC, Alexandria Clark of Fletcher, Adam Blake and Sarah Ross of Waynesville, and Emily Anna Tanner of Rayle, GA; and two great-great grandchildren, Will and Zoe Stevenson of Washington, NC. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 8, 2006 in the Waynesville chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend G.W. Jameson and Reverend Larry Reeves officiating. Burial will follow at Cove Creek Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 9:00 until 11:00 a.m. on Thursday prior to services. Serving as pallbearers will be Tom Clark, Edgar Martin, Ryan McElroy, Michael Tanner, Steven Messer, Adam Blake, and Ferguson Ross. Memorials may be given to Haywood County Meals-On-Wheels, 486 Marshal Street, Waynesville, NC 28786.
