Waynesville, Jewel Bennett Pafford, age 104, passed away on Friday, January 15, 2016 at Smoky Mountain Health and Rehabilitation. A native of Fitzgerald, Georgia, she had resided in Haywood County since 1983. She was the daughter of late James and Ethel Forehand Dorsey. She was also preceded in death by her first husband, Reppard Bennett, who died in 1966 and her second husband, James M. Pafford, who died in 1983 and one brother James Dorsey III and a step-daughter Carolyn Boatright. Jewel was a retired executive secretary of the Jacksonville Beach Rotary International Club. Jewel was a member and former organist of Maple Grove United Methodist Church and was active in United Methodist Women. She was also a Primetime singer at Waynesville First Baptist Church. Jewel is survived by Claris Dorsey Smith, of Tennessee and 12 step-grandchildren 21 step-great-grandchildren and 20 step-great great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, January 18, 2016 at Maple Grove United Church with Reverend Kitty Crain officiating. Burial will be at Palmetto Cemetery in Brunswick, Georgia. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until service time at the church.
