Waynesville, Jim "Dad" Davis, age 78, of 256 Mauney Cove Road, passed away on Tuesday, January 25, 2011 at Mission Hospital. A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, he was the son of the late Wiley Vinson and Ethel James Davis. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, James Wiley Davis; two brothers, Joe and Jack Davis and two sisters, Pauline Medford and Mazie Justice. He was a retired switchman for Bell South with 30 years service. Jim was a US Air Force Veteran having served during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of Maple Grove United Methodist Church and was a devoted husband, loving father, and faithful friend to all who knew him. He also loved to farm and ride horses. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Louise Swayngim Davis; one daughter, Cindy Davis -Mumma and her husband, Randy, of Waynesville; one son, Ed Davis and his wife, Julie, of Waynesville; four sisters, Valerie Ferguson of Whittier, Lucille Brooks of Candler, Hilda Wynn of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, and Margaret Tompkins, of Clyde; one brother, Bill Davis of Clyde; five grandchildren, Laurie Munoz and husband, José, Jim E. Davis and wife, Autumn, Jenny Durrett and her husband, Mark, Vinson Davis and Jessalyn Smith; daughter-in-law, Wren Gay Davis; special nephew, Mike Williamson and several other nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 29, 2011 at Maple Grove United Methodist Church with Reverend Tom Hunter officiating. Following the service, a celebration of Jim's life will be held in the church fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Maple Grove United Methodist Church, 79 Maple Grove Church Road, Waynesville, NC 28786. Wells Funeral Homes & Cremation Services of Waynesville is in charge of arrangements.
