James Franklin "Jim" Reed, age 83, was called home Tuesday, July 3, 2007, at Silver Bluff Nursing Home. He was a native of Franklin County, GA and the son of the late James Earley and Eula Wiley Reed. He was also preceded in death by a great grandson, Nathaniel Reed and a brother, Ernest Reed. He retired from American Enka with 35 years of service and was a member of Canton First United Methodist Church. He also retired from the Haywood County Rescue Squad with more than 23 years of service. Jim loved to fish, hunt, and spend time with his family. He was a devoted husband, dad, and grandfather and he will be greatly missed. In addition to his wife of 45 years, Wilcie Earley Reed, he is survived by a son, Stephen Todd Reed and his wife, Joyce, of Seymour, TN; a sister, Mary Lou Caldwell of Canton; two brothers, Edwin "Nook" Reed of Canton and Melvin Reed of Houston, TX; five grandchildren, Christina Hardin, Angie Bryant and her husband, Shane, Jarom Reed and his wife, Lisa, Lee Knight, and Ed Knight and his wife, Sarah; and eight great-grandchildren, "little" Lee, Bayleigh, Kayla, Trent, Madison, Stephen, Nolte, and Lauren. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, July 6, 2007, at the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Patricia Chaput officiating. Burial will follow at Bon-A-Venture Cemetery, Newfound Road. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 1:45 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
