Jimmie Jones

December 7, 1922 — October 21, 2002

Canton-Jimmie Hargrove Jones-79, died Monday, October 21, 2002 at Memorial Mission Hospital.

She was a native of Haywood County and a daughter of the late James Burton and Maggie Shook Hargrove. Both of her parents were descendents of pioneer families of Haywood County. She was the wife of the late Albert Carroll "Tony" Jones who died December 19, 1992 and was also preceded in death by a half-sister, Lois Kinsland and a half-brother, Roy Evans. She was a member of Canton Central United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women. She was a former employee of Champion Paper and Fiber Co., and was previously employed as a secretary for Haywood Distributors Inc. She was an active supporter of Champion YMCA and the Ladies Association and the Little League Baseball Program. She was an avid bridge player and enjoyed the friendship it brought to her and was a multi-gallon blood donor with The American Red Cross.

She is survived by two sons, Carroll Crymes Jones and his wife Cidinha of Pensacola, FL, Reid Hargrove "Rego" Jones of Canton, three sisters, Nannie Smathers and Ellen Woody both of Canton and Mildred Holbrook and her husband Bob of Enka, two grandchildren, Kelly Hargrove Jones, a student at the University of Florida at Gainsville and Amanda Carol Jones of Pensacola, FL.

Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, October 23, 2002 at Piney Grove Cemetery with Reverend Michael Gehring officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the fellowship hall of Piney Grove United Methodist Church. At other times the family will be at her residence, 44 Pearl Street, Canton, NC 28716. Serving as pallbearers will be Johnny Woody, Bill Holbrook, Tommy Holbrook, Jim Holbrook, Phil Haire, Wiley Cable, Wells Greeley and Skip Holland.

Memorials may be made to Piney Grove Cemetery Fund, 542 Reed Cove Road, Waynesville, NC 28786.
