Jimmy Lofton Clampitt, age 64, passed away Sunday, May 11, 2008, at Haywood Regional Medical Center. A native of Haywood County, he was the son of the late Renfro and Maude Howard Clampitt. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Helen Sherrill. He retired from Champion International with 21 years of service. His most cherished pastime was fishing. He could often be found on lakes fishing with his friends. A musician by nature who played electric bass, he loved live music. Jimmy enjoyed performing and working as a sound technician for local bands over the years. He is survived by his wife of 17 years, Susan Watson Clampitt; a son, Les Clampitt and his wife, Cathy, a step-son, Chuck Smith and his wife, Lori; a daughter, Stacy Henson and her husband, Jimmy, two step-daughters, Lora Cox and her husband, David, and Joy Wright and her husband, Rick; two sisters, Edith Buchanan and Shirley Bailey; a brother, Clifton Clampitt and his wife, Jean; nine grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday May 14, 2008, at the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home & Cremation Services with the Reverend Dwight Banks officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 7:00 p.m. Wednesday prior to the service at the funeral home. The family would like to extend special thanks and appreciation to Jim's long-time friend and physician, Dr. Harry Lipham, who provided special care throughout the years.
