Jimmy Duckett

Jimmy Lee Duckett, age 78, passed away on Tuesday, October 14, 2014 at his residence. A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, he was the son of the late James Harrison and Lassie Duckett. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Lynda Moody Duckett, who died in 2002; four brothers, Randall, John, Harold, and Gene Duckett. He retired from Champion International with 40 years of service and was a lifelong member of Canton First Baptist Church. Jimmy enjoyed spending time outdoors especially working in his garden. He was well known for growing large and delicious tomatoes which he enjoyed sharing with others. He was a talented craftsman and enjoyed the precision of woodworking. Affectionately known as "Papaw Yo-Yo" by his grandchildren, he loved them all dearly. Jimmy will be remembered for being a hard worker, kind and gentle, and dedicated to his family. He is survived by three daughters, Dianne High and her husband, Jimmy, of Waynesville, Debbie Glavich and her husband, David, of Wingate, and Sandy Hipps and her husband, "Beef" Thomas of Canton; a brother, Max Duckett of Canton; four grandchildren, Kaylin and Andrew Hipps, and Hannah and Jonathan Glavich; several nieces and nephews; and his special cat, "Lucky". Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 17, 2014 at the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Jay Meadows and Reverend Josh Evans officiating. Burial will follow at Bon-A-Venture Cemetery, Old Clyde Road. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to one's favorite charity.
