Jo Warren

Loving Wife and Mother Lake Junaluska, Jo Orr Warren, 95, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 30, 2017 at Maggie Valley Nursing and Rehabilitation in Maggie Valley, North Carolina. Mrs. Warren was born on February 20, 1922 in Asheville, North Carolina. She was the daughter of the late William Carl Orr and Jessie Jenkins Orr. She was preceded in death by her sister, Zethia Orr Engquist and a brother, James Carl Orr. She was a life-long member of the United Methodist Church and a member of Long's Chapel United Methodist Church for the past 55 years. She was involved in Bible School, singing in the choir and other church activities. She was a past member of the Waynesville Garden Club and enjoyed bowling and western square dancing. Jo is survived by her loving and devoted husband, Alvin P. Warren, with whom she celebrated 69 years of marriage on April 14,; two daughters, Patricia Warren Rogers and husband, Richard, of Lake Junaluska and Ann Woods King of Fairview; five grandchildren, Rick Rogers and wife, Michele, Larry Woods and wife, Kim, David Woods and wife, Holly, Michael Woods and wife, Amy and Barbara Bumgarner and husband, Andrew; eleven great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter; two sisters, Clara Orr Sorrells of Asheville and Lucille Orr Chavis and her husband, John, of Haines City, Florida; three brothers, Franklin D. Orr and his wife, Shirley, of Asheville, Earl A. Orr and his wife, Gladys, of Hampstead, North Carolina, and G. Thomas Orr of Orlando, Florida; and one sister-in-law, Helen Fox, of Asheville. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 1, 2017 at Long's Chapel United Methodist Church with Reverend Chris Westmoreland and Reverend John K. Ferree officiating. A private family committal service will be held following the service. The family will receive friends from 11:30 until 12:45 p.m. at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Long's Chapel United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 459, Lake Junaluska, NC 28745
