JOAN ALSUP LATHAM

Waynesville, NC-Joan Alsup Latham, age 68, passed into the hands of her loving Savior, Wednesday, August 28, 2002 at her residence.

She was a native of Arkansas and was the daughter of the late Robert Taylor and Mary Florence D. Alsup. She was preceded in death by her husband Prentiss Thomas Latham, three brothers, and three sisters. She was employed by, McCracken Rest Home as an Administrator until her retirement in 1997 after nine years. She enjoyed her grandchildren and devoted her adult life to the care of the elderly.

She is survived by one daughter, Melissa Mehaffey and her husband, John, of Waynesville; three sons, Lynial D. Latham and his wife, Kruamast, of Asheville, Reverend Taylor Latham and his wife, Sheila, of Stoneville, NC, and Charles Latham and his wife, Deanna Lynn, of Clyde; one sister, Helen Lowe of Lake Junaluska; one brother, William ''Duke'' Alsup of Palestine, Arkansas; and eight grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Friday, August 30, 2002, in the Waynesville chapel of Wells Funeral Homes with the Reverend J.D. Grant and the Reverend Todd West officiating. Pallbearers will be Steve Myers, Marty Caywood, Ralph Lowe, Tony Lowe, David Gentry, and Tracy Cobb. The family will receive friends from 1:30 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. prior to the services and burial will follow at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Gardens.
