Joan Marable

Waynesville, Joan Haddon Marable, 89, passed away on Sunday, March 10, 2013, at the Haywood Lodge & Retirement Center. A native of Richmond, Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Hugh Watson and Annie Joan Hendrix Haddon. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dallace (Dick) E. Marable, who died in 2000; a son, Terry Marable, who died in 2004; as well as five brothers and three sisters. She is survived by a daughter, Judi Alvarez and her husband, Calvin, of Hot Springs, NC; three sons, Dick Marable and his wife, Sue, of Florence, Kentucky, Greg Marable and his wife, Alice, of Germantown, Maryland, Scott Marable and his wife, Georgette, of Winter Springs, Florida; a daughter-in-law, Donna Marable, of Foley, Alabama; an older brother, Chester Haddon and his wife, Mary, of Hartfield, Virginia; ten grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and many other relatives. Joan loved all her family and the many homes and places she lived with Dick and "the kids." She especially loved their retirement home on the Piankitank River in Hartfield, Virginia where they lived for 25 years. Keeping her yard and flower garden beautiful was very important to her, but she was always ready to pack a bag and travel to all the states in our country and all over the world with her adventurous husband, Dick, and often with family and friends. Joan's last home of nine years was the Haywood Lodge & Retirement Center where she met and made many wonderful friends among the residents and felt as though all the staff was her family. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 17, 2013 at the Philippi Christian Church in Deltaville, Virginia Reverend June Haislip officiating. Burial will follow in the Philippi Christian Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Haywood Lodge & Retirement Center Activities Fund, 251 Shelton Street, Waynesville, NC 28786.
